Parameter Explanation
name Commonly-known name of person (defaults to article name, without disambiguation)
honorific_prefix To appear on the line above the person's name
honorific_suffix To appear on the line below the person's name
image A picture of or including the person. Use file name only, without the brackets and File: or Image: prefix (abc.jpg, xyz.png, etc.)
image_size Size to display image: 200px (set width), x300px (set height), or 200x300px (max width & max height). This defaults to frameless (default is 220px, but logged in users can change this by clicking on "my preferences" and adjusting thumbnail size) if empty or omitted. This parameter should not normally need to be set.
alt Alternative text for image, for visually impaired readers (see WP:ALT)
caption Caption to accompany image. If a (portrait) photograph of the person, try to include date of photo and photographer's name.
type Sponsoring agency (NASA, RKA, ESA, CSA, etc.) plus "Astronaut" ("Cosmonaut" for RKA) for professionals; Payload Specialist, Tourist, etc. for other flyers.
native_name Name in the person's native language. If more than one, separate using {{plainlist}}.
native_name_lang ISO 639-1 two-letter code for person's native language (e.g. "fr" for French). If more than one, use {{lang}} in |native_name= instead.

birth_date Date of birth. If the person is living, use {{Birth date and age}}, {{Birth-date and age}}, or {{Birth year and age}}. If deceased, use {{Birth date}} or {{Birth-date}}. Use plain text for partial dates.
Example: {{Birth date and age|1950|8|26}} if born August 26, 1950
Example: {{Birth date and age|df=yes|1950|8|26}} to display birth date as 26 August 1950

retirement Date when person retired from astro/cosmonaut activity.

module Used for embedding other templates into this infobox (see below for more details).
child For embedding this infobox into another (see below for more details).

Embedding other templates via module parameter

The module parameter is used for embedding other templates into this infobox (see Wikipedia:Infobox modules). For example:

{{Infobox astronaut
| name =
| <!-- etc. -->
| module =
  {{Infobox football biography |embed=yes
  | <!-- etc. -->
  }}
}}

Use as an embedded template via child parameter

The child parameter is used when embedding this infobox into another.

This infobox may be used to create a genre-specific section within {{Infobox person}} (or similar biographical infobox templates) for cases where a person may be notable in more than one field; a generic example is shown below. For guidance on usage, see Wikipedia:Infobox modules. Also see the Template:Infobox documentation which explains embedding and subboxes.

{{Infobox person
| name =
| image =
| caption =
| birth_date =
| birth_place =
| <!-- etc. -->
| module =
  {{Infobox astronaut | child=yes
  | parameter-1 =
  | parameter-2 =
  | parameter-3 =
  | parameter-4 =
  | <!-- etc. -->
  }}
}}

Microformat

The HTML markup produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the person's details parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue articles across Wikipedia or via a browser tool operated by a reader, to (for example) add the subject to an address book or database. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.

Sub-templates

Date-of-birth ("bday") information will only be included in the microformat if {{birth date}}, or {{birth date and age}} are used in the infobox. (Do not use these if the date is before 1583). Be cautious about using these if the person is still living, per WP:DOB.

To include a URL, use {{URL}}.

Please do not remove instances of these sub-templates.
